- 1940 - Neal Doughty (REO Speedwagon - Keyboards) was born.
- 1953 - Patti Scialfa (a.k.a. Mrs. Springsteen) was born in Deal, NJ. (I guess he really was in love with a Jersey girl?)
- 1959 - John Sykes (Whitesnake - guitar) was born.
- 1962 - Bob Dylan makes his first radio appearance on WRUR-FM in New York as part of a 21-hour Hootenany Saturday special.
- 1966 - Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, and Ginger Baker perform (but billed individually) perform in public for the first time. Later, they form Cream.
- 1967 - The Doors have their first #1 hit with “Light My Fire“. The seven minute long song is cut down to three minutes to be more “AM radio-friendly”.
- 1973 - Led Zeppelin gets robbed while in New York of about $180,000.
- 1980 - David Bowie makes his movie debut as the lead in “The Elephant Man“.
- 1987 - In honor of the Grateful Dead’s frontman, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor, Cherry Garcia, goes on sale.
