Posted on Sep 16, 2009 under Site News | No Comment

As long as there are no “technical difficulties” (meaning no podcasts) the YCW update will be late today - I will be out of reach from their show most of the day today (and won’t be able to hear it on web radio).

Today in Rock & forums update

Posted on Aug 18, 2009 under Site News, Today in Rock | No Comment

It seems that there was something screwy with the permissions and the forums. I think I’ve fixed it now - feel free to try to post and/or reply. If not, feel free to “comment” on this post to let me know and I’ll see what I can do. Posts may not appear immediately - anti spam measures mean that the first set of posts someone does will need to be approved before they are displayed. This will help me weed out the spammers from the people who want to contribute.

Today in Rock (Aug 12) and news about Steve.

Posted on Aug 12, 2009 under Site News, Steve Branzig, Today in Rock, YCW | No Comment

Paul posted though his Facebook account that Steve Branzig is no longer with the show:

Before it becomes a huge issue and the lead story all over the news. Steve Brancik is no longer with the Paul and Young Ron show. Unfortunately, do to the legal issues surrounding this issue, I cannot comment at this time. And you know me: I comment …about everything. Sorry, but I certainly hope you bear with us and our show during this difficult time. That being said, we have already reached out to Tommy!

Before any rumors start on this site - “due to legal issues” does not indicate that he did anything illegal, it could just be HR (human resources) reasons why he left but this does lead us to believe that he left involuntarily. Steve will be missed.

Also, YCW update will be late tomorrow, the boss is in town and I need to behave while I’m here, that means no streaming audio or non-work related work. I’ll catch the podcast later in the day (evening) and post the update then. :(

Now, for today in rock!

  • 1949 - Mark Knophler (Dire Straights - leader / guitar / songwriter / vocals) was born.

  • 1963 - Sir Mix-A-Lot was born.
  • 1966 - The Beatles begin their last American tour.
  • 1967 - Fleetwood Mac make their stage debut at the UK National Blues and Jazz Festival. Also appearing are Cream, Small Faces, Ten Years After, Donovan, and Pink Floyd.

  • 1972 - Derek and the Dominoes enter the UK charts with “Layla”.
  • 1993 - Red Hot Chili Peppers hire Jesse Tobias. He only lasts 3 months before they replace him with Dave Navarro. Spinal Tap, anyone? At least he didn’t die.
  • 1994 - “Woodstock ‘94″ opens in Saugerties, NY. Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, Aerosmith, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers all perform. Candlebox, Collective Soul, Live, Blind Melon, the Henry Rollins Band, and Melissa Ethridge all perform on the opening day. Tickets are $135 each yet people get in for free and the “event” has an exclusive deal with Pepsi. Yep, exactly like the original Woodstock.

The forums are back up with a new address

Posted on Aug 09, 2009 under Site News | No Comment

The forums are back up but due to the damage to the database after a massive spam attack they were damaged beyond repair so I had to start from scratch. :( Everyone will have to re-register for the forums. I do apologize for this but it was either that or leave them working half-assed (at best). I opted to have them working again.

You also may notice that there are new security measures in place - visual confirmation for your first few posts to help battle spam, it is not permanent but it will go away when you reach a certain post count. There is also advanced visual confirmation to register as well as email confirmation before accounts are active.

There is also a new address for the forums so the old addresses will NOT work. The new address is: http://www.youcantwin.net/comm. Please update your bookmarks. The same rules apply as the old forum but it may take me a day or two to get those out of the old forums. For now, enjoy the new forums, they are faster than the previous version when it was working. :)

Database errors with the forums

I’m aware that sometimes when people try to post on the forums they receive a database error - I will see if I can get this fixed in the next day or so.

The forums are back up.

Yes, the forums are back up. I’ve also enabled a PM spam notification so if someone is sending spam though private messages, you can report them.

If you see any spammers, please use the report button - every link to their sites helps them and each site had malicious code in them (malware, spyware, viruses) and I’d hate to see any members here fall victim to those.

I am still looking for better security so we can try to prevent this from happening again.

I do apologize for anyone who might have been offended by the spam - anything like that is NOT approved by this site’s management and does not reflect the views or opinions of this site (and of course, the P&YR show, the radio stations that play them, and Clear Chanel).

This site is in no way affiliated with the Paul and Young Ron show, Big 105.9FM, 98.7 The Gater, Clear Channel Communications, or any of their employees.
