I guess Paul got frustrated with how “10 Seconds of Hate” was going and the final caller stated that he hates he never gets though for You Can’t Win so Paul decided to play it again. At least this guy caught the hint yesterday.
Since one of the prizes is a pair of season tickets to the Marlins (for this season), I think they’re going to try to rush though the final questions so the winner doesn’t lose out.

Today they are starting up the new season of You Can’t Win. My update may be a little late due to work but I’ll get it up as soon as I can.
Posted on Aug 17, 2009 under The Show, Today in Rock, YCW |
The Paul and Young Ron show seem to be on vacation this week so there will be no You Can’t Win this week.
- 1944 - Sib Hashian (Boston - the guy with “the hair” - drummer) was born.
- 1953 - Kevin Rowland (Dexie’s Midnight Runners) was born.
- 1954 - Eric Johnson (guitarist) was born.
- 1958 - Belinda Carlisle (Go-Go’s) was born.
- 1960 - After going through several names (including their most recent - Silver Beetles), John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison, along with then-drummer Pete Best, settle on The Beatles as the group parks it at the Indra Club in Hamburg for a three-month stay. It’s the group’s first engagement outside England.
- 1964 - The Kinks release the hit “You Really Got Me“.
- 1965 - Steve Gorman (Black Crows - drummer) was born.
- 1970 - Christine McVie officially joins Fleetwood Mac.
- 1978 - Paul Williams (Temptations) died.
- 1986 - Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen plays his first U.K. concert with the group since losing his arm in an auto accident. He uses customized drums to compensate for the missing limb.
- 1989 - The Who’s Pete Townshend injures his right hand playing “Won’t Get Fooled Again” during a Tacoma (WA) show. He’s doing his signature windmill guitar move. I guess it’s not easy or safe?
- 1993 - Soul Asylum’s “Runaway Train” is certified gold.
- 2004 - Marilyn O’Grady, a Republican candidate for the New York Senate, launches a “Boycott the Boss” television commercial. Springsteen has been vocal about the ousting President Bush in the upcoming election. The conservative candidate says Springsteen “thinks making millions with a song-and-dance routine allows him to tell you how to vote. Here`s my vote - boycott the Boss. If you don`t buy his politics, don`t buy his music.” Nasty election year all the way around.

Due to “technical difficulties” there is no podcast for the 8 o’clock hour. Personally, I find it odd how this is the ONLY hour they have it for.
Posted on Aug 13, 2009 under The Staff, Tommy, YCW |
Paul announced on his Facebook today that Tommy is now gone from the show. It’s a sad week for the Paul and Young Ron show. First, they lose Steve and now Tommy. Who next?
Ok friends, Tommy Owen is out. We wish him well in his future endeavors. He wants to be a Hollywood screen writer! so, the search for the next member of the P/R show is on…I have two candidates that I love so far. Will fill you in when I can…
Also - the podcast form today is very poor in quality and extremely choppy - it took me 3 tries just to get the wrong answer but there was a lot of comments from the staff on her answer (like she was extremely close).
Lastly, the You Can’t Win update tomorrow will also be late (I pray the quality of the podcast is MUCH better). More work at work (yeah, it sucks when I have to do that during YCW, but work does pay the bills).
Posted on Aug 12, 2009 under Site News, Steve Branzig, Today in Rock, YCW |
Paul posted though his Facebook account that Steve Branzig is no longer with the show:
Before it becomes a huge issue and the lead story all over the news. Steve Brancik is no longer with the Paul and Young Ron show. Unfortunately, do to the legal issues surrounding this issue, I cannot comment at this time. And you know me: I comment …about everything. Sorry, but I certainly hope you bear with us and our show during this difficult time. That being said, we have already reached out to Tommy!
Before any rumors start on this site - “due to legal issues” does not indicate that he did anything illegal, it could just be HR (human resources) reasons why he left but this does lead us to believe that he left involuntarily. Steve will be missed.
Also, YCW update will be late tomorrow, the boss is in town and I need to behave while I’m here, that means no streaming audio or non-work related work. I’ll catch the podcast later in the day (evening) and post the update then.
Now, for today in rock!
- 1949 - Mark Knophler (Dire Straights - leader / guitar / songwriter / vocals) was born.
- 1960 - Pete Best begins a (short) career with the Beatles as their drummer. He is later replaced with Ringo Starr.
- 1961 - Roy Hay (Culture Club) was born.
- 1963 - Sir Mix-A-Lot was born.
- 1966 - The Beatles begin their last American tour.
- 1967 - Fleetwood Mac make their stage debut at the UK National Blues and Jazz Festival. Also appearing are Cream, Small Faces, Ten Years After, Donovan, and Pink Floyd.
- 1972 - The first ever rock concert for charity begins. The Festival of Hope in Garden City, NY has Jefferson Airplane and Stephen Hills on their bill but the event loses $100,000.
- 1972 - Derek and the Dominoes enter the UK charts with “Layla”.
- 1993 - Red Hot Chili Peppers hire Jesse Tobias. He only lasts 3 months before they replace him with Dave Navarro. Spinal Tap, anyone? At least he didn’t die.
- 1994 - “Woodstock ‘94″ opens in Saugerties, NY. Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, Aerosmith, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers all perform. Candlebox, Collective Soul, Live, Blind Melon, the Henry Rollins Band, and Melissa Ethridge all perform on the opening day. Tickets are $135 each yet people get in for free and the “event” has an exclusive deal with Pepsi. Yep, exactly like the original Woodstock.

Today Jake got question #2 correct:
On average, this takes 26 minutes.
The average commute time to work from Weston, FL.
Question #3 is:
What do the Dukes of Hazard, The A Team, and MacGyver have in common?

- 1953 - Hal Lindes (Dire Straights - lead guitar) was born.
- 1953 - Don Dokken (Dokken - vocals) was born.

- 2006 - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are honored in an exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland. “Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers: Thirty Years of Rock and Roll,” displays the flowered shirt Petty wore for the “Free Fallin’” video and a gray jacket from his time in the Traveling Wilburys.

In the interview McCartney expounds on their songwriting technique. “Normally, we sit down and try and bash one out,” says The Beatles’ bassist. He adds that sometimes each writes a complete song on his own though they both take credit for it

Sorry I missed it, it went by quickly but I listened to the audio cast and got it:
South America
Personally, I don’t think a hint should be given out unless the question has been around a while (added onto the current rule). I think it was a little premature to give a hint just a week into YCW.
